Birds of Prey
DC · 1999–2009 · 127 issues
About the series
From 1999 to 2009, DC’s Birds of Prey teamed Oracle—the wheelchair-bound former Batgirl Barbara Gordon—with the martial-arts master Black Canary, Dinah Lance, in a globe-trotting, street-level action series that redefined female-led superheroics. Over 127 issues, writers like Chuck Dixon, Gail Simone, and Tony Bedard built a gritty, character-driven narrative, while artists including Butch Guice, Ed Benes, and Nicola Scott brought the team’s high-stakes missions and evolving dynamics to life. It remains a landmark for its focus on women in the DC Universe, blending espionage, found family, and hard-hitting combat without relying on the larger Bat-family.
