Birds of Prey #7

The cover — penciled by Greg Land and Brian Stelfreeze, with inks by Stelfreeze — crackles with street-level chaos as Black Canary launches herself off an armored vehicle while a bald, snarling figure looms behind her, gun raised, surrounded by armed soldiers and billowing smoke. The tagline "Best of Enemies!" says it all: this 1999 issue, written by Chuck Dixon with interior art by Pete Krause and Drew Geraci, puts its hero squarely in the middle of a warzone with the odds decidedly stacked against her. It's a sharp, kinetic entry in the series that fans of action-driven DC storytelling will find hard to put down.
