Birds of Prey #30

The cover of Birds of Prey #30 (June 2001) promises exactly what the banner headline delivers — "The Final Battle!" — as Black Canary, in her green-and-gold costume, clashes blade-to-shield in fierce hand-to-hand combat with a dark-haired warrior woman amid a chaotic battlefield of spear-wielding fighters stretching into the background. Butch Guice's cover art crackles with kinetic energy, the two combatants locked together at the center while the surrounding melee and runic border detailing give the whole image a mythic, epic-scale feel. Chuck Dixon and Guice close out "History Lesson" Part 3 with a cover that makes it easy to see why this title had built such a devoted following by 2001.
