Birds of Prey #13

The cover of Birds of Prey #13 sets the stakes immediately: Black Canary and Huntress are hurtling through a closing Boom Tube, a looming armored figure of Apokolips visible in the fiery background — and the tagline "Next Stop: Apokolips!" leaves little doubt about where this January 2000 issue is headed. Cover pencils by Greg Land and Brian Stelfreeze (who also handles inks) capture both heroines mid-flight with real urgency, their teal-and-black costumes a vivid contrast against the alien hellscape behind them. Chuck Dixon's "Apokolips Express" promises the kind of interplanetary tension that makes this era of Birds of Prey such a compelling read.
