Archie shows up at Veronica's door, ready to take her to the dance. Veronica is mad because Archie's late; she had told him that the dance was switched from 8pm to 7pm. Archie says he's sorry and that he forgot. Veronica asks why everything she says to him goes in one ear and out the other. Mr. Lodge, who is in the other room reading a newspaper, replies that there's nothing in between to stop it.
