Scott Beatty is an American comic book writer, superhero historian, and creative writing educator whose published work spans from the late 1990s through the present day. He earned a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from Juniata College, followed by an M.A. in the same disciplines from Iowa State University, and later an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from DeSales University — an academic background that has informed both his storytelling and his teaching career.

Beatty broke into comics around 1999 and has since been credited on more than 150 issues across a wide range of publishers and titles. He is perhaps best recognized for his contributions to DC's Batman family of books, including substantial runs on Batman: Gotham Knights and the well-regarded Batgirl: Year One, which helped establish a more fully realized origin for Barbara Gordon in her early crime-fighting days. His work on Joker: Last Laugh and Number of the Beast further demonstrated his comfort with ensemble superhero narratives, while credits on CrossGen's Ruse and WildStorm's Gen 13 showed his range beyond the DC universe.

Beyond scripting, Beatty has worked as a superhero historian, contributing reference and encyclopedic material to the comics field — a role that complements his academic training and his ongoing work as a creative writing teacher.
