Joshua Dysart
Joshua Dysart is an American comic book writer best known for his character-driven, politically charged work across several major publishers. He was born on June 21, 1971. Dysart entered the industry in the early 2000s, writing for DC Comics, Vertigo, Dark Horse, Image, Valiant, IDW, and others. His signature work includes a critically acclaimed run on *Unknown Soldier* for Vertigo, where he explored the complexities of war and identity in Uganda, and a defining tenure at Valiant Entertainment. There, he wrote *Harbinger*, *Imperium*, and *The Life and Death of Toyo Harada*, crafting a sprawling, morally ambiguous saga of super-powered individuals and corporate espionage. He also wrote *Swamp Thing* and *Demon: Driven Out*. Dysart’s style is marked by dense, realistic dialogue and a focus on psychological depth and sociopolitical themes, often collaborating with artists like Alberto Ponticelli and Mico Suayan. He co-created the Valiant characters and concepts central to his *Harbinger* storyline. Later in his career, his output slowed, with his last credited work appearing in 2019. While he has not received major mainstream awards, Dysart’s work is highly regarded by critics and readers for its ambition and intelligence, cementing his legacy as a writer who brought literary heft to genre comics.
