Swamp Thing #27
Two curious children crouch in a misty woodland clearing, their attention fixed on a small skeletal hand reaching up through the grass between them — an unsettling discovery rendered with quiet, almost childlike innocence by cover artist Eric Powell. Below that grassy surface, Swamp Thing's tortured face peers upward from the earth, trapped and wild-eyed, making the title "The Prison Tree: Chapter 1" feel immediately and uncomfortably apt. Joshua Dysart and Enrique Breccia's Vertigo run continues to find fresh horror in nature's darker corners, and this issue looks like a genuinely compelling place to jump into the next chapter.
