Set in the immediate postwar shadows of 1947, this B.P.R.D. volume reunites Mike Mignola with writers Joshua Dysart and artists Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon for a story spun directly from the pages of Hellboy. Mignola's cover art is characteristically atmospheric — a red-skinned young Hellboy crouches at the center, cradled beneath the looming, draped figures of what appear to be a dark angel and a cloaked specter, their wings and robes enveloping the scene with an unmistakable sense of dread and protection in equal measure. It's a striking tableau that captures the eerie, noir-tinged tone the B.P.R.D. universe does so well.
