Swamp Thing #29
The header says it all — "Farewell to… Swamp Thing" — and Eric Powell's haunting cover sends the series off with quiet, unsettling power: the muck-encrusted figure of Swamp Thing looms at the far end of a tunnel of twisted trees, his red eyes glowing faintly in the darkness as scattered leaves drift along the ground at his feet. It's a genuinely atmospheric sendoff for Joshua Dysart and Enrique Breccia's run, wrapping up "The Prison Tree" storyline with a mood that feels both foreboding and elegiac. If you've been following this Vertigo incarnation of the character, issue #29 from September 2006 is a fitting final chapter to have on your shelf.
