Swamp Thing #22
This February 2006 Vertigo entry pairs Joshua Dysart's writing with Enrique Breccia's art for "The Bleeding Raconteur, Part 2: A Hair-Trigger Heart," continuing what sounds like a deeply atmospheric arc. Eric Powell's cover painting is a stunner — a massive, gnarled Swamp Thing form looms like a living forest while a pale, vine-adorned woman rises against a sulfurous yellow haze, her white hair dissolving into smoke, intricate dark tendrils curling across her skin. The image has an almost Pre-Raphaelite quality to it, moody and beautiful in equal measure, perfectly suited to Vertigo's taste for horror that lingers under the skin.
