Unknown Soldier #3
Vertigo's Unknown Soldier #3 (2009) arrives with a cover by Igor Kordey that is genuinely hard to look away from — a bandage-wrapped figure cradles a wounded or unconscious person against a backdrop of roaring flames and circling birds, the muted palette of grays and browns giving way to that searing amber inferno behind them. The image carries real emotional weight, evoking both tenderness and devastation in equal measure. Writer Joshua Dysart and artist Alberto Ponticelli continue "Haunted House Chapter Three," and if the cover is any indication, this remains one of Vertigo's most serious-minded series of its era.
