Dennis Calero is an American comic book artist and illustrator best known for his moody, shadow-drenched work on noir-inflected superhero stories. Born in 1972, he entered the industry in the early 1990s and built a reputation for atmospheric linework and a cinematic sense of composition. His most celebrated projects include *X-Men Noir* and *Spider-Man Noir*, where he reimagined classic Marvel characters in a gritty 1930s setting, as well as lengthy runs on *X-Factor*, *Legion of Super-Heroes*, and *Kolchak*. Calero frequently collaborated with writer Fred Van Lente, co-creating the *X-Men Noir* universe, and also contributed to *Masks* and *Templars*. In addition to penciling, he worked extensively as a colorist and inker, bringing a distinctive, chiaroscuro palette to his pages. Over a career spanning from 1992 to 2019, he was credited on more than 110 issues. Later in life, Calero continued to produce covers and interior art, though his output slowed. He remains a respected figure among fans of alternative superhero storytelling, his work often cited for its fusion of pulp noir with mainstream capes-and-cowls.
