“Some Years Later: Family Business”

Issue #38 of DC's Manhunter promises "The Most Dangerous Endgame…" and the cover by penciler Brad Walker and inker John Livesay delivers on that tension beautifully — Manhunter herself, in her striking red-and-black costume, fires a crackling blue energy blast upward across a field of burning rubble, while the enormous silhouette of a looming figure casts its shadow over everything below. Writer Marc Andreyko and artist Michael Gaydos bring the story "Some Years Later: Family Business" to what looks like a breathless confrontation, with the scale of that shadowy threat making Manhunter's defiant stand all the more compelling. A great chapter in one of DC's most underrated series from 2009.
