One of four turtles mutated by a mysterious ooze in the sewers of New York City, Raphael was raised and trained in ninjutsu by the rat sensei Splinter. Known for his fierce, hot-headed temperament, he wields a pair of sai.

Fiery, fearless, and impossible to ignore, Raphael burst onto the Archie Comics scene in 1988 — right at the height of Turtle mania — courtesy of creators Michael Dooney and David Wise. This Copper Age incarnation has proven remarkably durable, racking up 86 catalog appearances across 36 years and showing up most prominently in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures, Mighty Mutanimals, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Giant Size Special. He shares his pages with a who's who of the TMNT universe — Splinter, April O'Neil, Hamato Yoshi, Oroku Saki, and the Shredder himself — making for some genuinely electrifying company.
