By the time issue #15 arrived in October 1990, the Archie TMNT Adventures series had been operating under the creative stewardship of Mirage Studios writer Stephen Murphy (writing as 'Dean Clarrain') and artist Ryan Brown since issue #5, when the book decisively broke from its cartoon-adaptation origins to pursue original, socially conscious storytelling. This issue was plotted by both Brown and Murphy, with Murphy handling the script solo, and pencils by series regular Ken Mitchroney, whose clean, animated style had become the visual identity of the run. Edits were overseen by Scott Fulop under managing editor Victor Gorelick — the standard Archie editorial infrastructure that gave Murphy and Brown substantial creative latitude to introduce characters like Null and Dreadmon without prior toy-line mandates, in sharp contrast to the Playmates-driven Mirage books.
