Pat Ryan
Pat Ryan is a two-fisted adventurer who stars alongside young Terry Lee in Milton Caniff's classic strip Terry and the Pirates, battling pirates, criminals, and assorted villains across exotic Far Eastern locales. He serves as Terry's adult guardian and mentor figure.
Few characters can claim roots as deep as Pat Ryan, a Platinum Age adventurer who first leaped off the page in Popular Comics #1 back in 1936 β the very first issue of one of the earliest comic book anthologies ever published. Created by the legendary Chester Gould, Pat has kept remarkable company across his nearly nine decades in print, sharing pages with the likes of Terry Lee, The Dragon Lady, and Smilin' Jack in Dell's golden stable of adventure and humor strips. With 143 catalog appearances spanning Popular Comics, Super Comics, and Terry and the Pirates, and three key issues to his name, Pat Ryan is a genuine piece of comics history β the kind of character who reminds collectors just how rich and sprawling this medium's roots truly are.
