The U.S. has declared war on Germany. Von Haupt and his assistant burn all incriminating documents and take it on the lam. However, newsman Jack Mullin learns of the spies' activities and tries to enlist Nick's help in investigating them, but Nick refuses. However, the Owl investigates a mysterious new neighbor and discovers him to be an invalid Von Haupt.
