In the 1944 adventure tale "null," Jack, returning from a business trip with Mr. Beaverduck, pushes himself through a long flight without rest—only to crash-land when he falls asleep. Making his way home, he’s met with a surprise: his new wife, Joy, is quarantined with the measles, and her mother sees an opportunity to have their marriage annulled.

In "Rationed Gasoline Racketeering," OPA investigator Thompson stumbles upon a suspicious delivery at Dorrit’s Diamond Gasoline station, only to be knocked out by the elusive Gammack, who’s behind a stolen "Blue Gasoline" tanker. When young Johnny reports finding Thompson’s car in the woods and blue-tinted fuel is discovered at the station, the trail leads to a roadhouse showdown—where Dorrit names Gammack as the wanted man Grommett, setting off a high-speed chase and a desperate fight for survival.
