About the series
Chester Gould's hard-boiled detective Dick Tracy anchored this early Dell Comics series, running 30 issues from 1939 to 1942. Alongside Gould's gritty crime-fighting strips, the book featured aviation adventure from Zack Mosley's "Smilin' Jack" and artwork by Henry Vallely. As one of the first dedicated comic books to showcase a newspaper strip star in original stories, it helped define the transition from the funny pages to the newsstand.
