In "null," Northrup struggles to convince Hoiman that they must alert Shulz and Dusenberry—quickly—before Uncle Olaf’s hunting trip causes trouble with the cows wandering off.

In "null," Skippy sets off to visit Ray and see his new dog, only to keep passing by people who’ve already been chased by the beast. Ray grows concerned as Skippy takes longer than expected—until he finally arrives, wearing a First World War helmet and looking more than a little shaken.

In "null," Hoiman and Northrup settle in for the parade, excited to see the Mayor ride at the head on horseback. Northrup suddenly dashes off, promising to be right back—only to return with a slingshot, much to Hoiman’s surprise.

In "null," Skippy watches from his window as his friend Yacob sets off to buy ice cream with a quarter, promising to let him lick the box afterward. Skippy imagines every step of Yacob’s journey, only to be left puzzled when Yacob returns empty-handed—Mrs. Barkenteen had refused the quarter, saying it was payment for the chocolate Skippy once stole from her counter.

In "null," Northrup puzzles over why people are drawn to Hoiman, who claims it’s because he feels so deeply for others’ troubles that he’s tempted to jump into a lake. When they reach the lake, Northrup drops a surprising detail: Freddy’s getting a tooth pulled tomorrow.

Skippy’s day of fly fishing is a series of comical mishaps, leaving him ready to call it quits. As he walks away, he spots a kid with a surprisingly large catch—and can’t help but think the kid’s method is the most ridiculous way to fish he’s ever seen.
