Who is Gold?

Created by scientist Dr. Will Magnus, Gold is a sentient robot powered by a Responsometer — an artificial-intelligence core that grants him a distinct personality. Composed entirely of gold, he can stretch and reshape his malleable body into wires, sheets, or virtually any form, and serves as leader of the Metal Men.

Few characters shine quite like Gold, a DC original who burst onto the scene in Tales of the Unexpected #70 in 1962, brought to life by Jack Schiff and Win Mortimer at the height of the Silver Age. With 86 catalogued appearances spanning an extraordinary 63 years — from the Kennedy era all the way to 2025 — Gold has proven a remarkably enduring presence in the DC universe, most at home in the pages of Metal Men, Wednesday Comics, and The Brave and the Bold. Three of those appearances carry key-issue status, marking real milestone moments for collectors, and the company Gold keeps is nothing short of stellar: the likes of Superman, Batman, The Flash, and Platinum have all shared adventures in the same pages. If you're exploring the gleaming heart of DC's Silver Age legacy, Gold is absolutely worth your time.
