Metal Men
DC · 1963–1978 · 56 issues
About the series
From 1963 to 1978, DC Comics' Metal Men introduced a team of sentient, shape-shifting robots—each named after a different metal—who balanced superheroics with the quirky, human-like dynamics of a found family. Created primarily by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Ross Andru, the series stood out for its playful blend of science fiction, adventure, and character-driven humor, as the robots (Mercury, Tin, Gold, Lead, Iron, and Platinum) navigated their own personalities and relationships alongside their missions. A cult favorite of the Silver Age, it remains a fondly remembered showcase of inventive storytelling and distinctive design that explored what it means to be alive.
