Metal Men #29

The Metal Men face a threat of cosmic proportions in this January 1967 DC adventure, as the cover — penciled by Ross Andru and inked by Mike Esposito — shows the team scrambling in desperate panic beneath the crushing descent of a massive alien vessel, the Robot-Eater of Metalis 5. Platinum lunges toward the viewer in wide-eyed alarm while her teammates — including the red, blue, and grey-toned members of the group — strain against the enormous craft looming overhead, with a human observer watching urgently from a jeep in the background. It's a gripping, kinetic snapshot of DC's most unusual robot team at their most vulnerable, and a fine example of Andru and Esposito's dynamic mid-'60s collaboration.
