A somber rain falls over a cemetery as a group of mourners huddles beneath umbrellas in the dim background — and the foreground tells you exactly who they're grieving: a memorial stone bearing the sculpted faces of all six Metal Men, Gold, Tina, Tin, Lead, Iron, and Mercury, each labeled by name beneath the stark "R.I.P." that dominates the cover. Mike Sekowsky's pencils and Dick Giordano's inks give the scene a genuinely mournful atmosphere, a striking tonal shift for a DC superhero book of 1969.
