Amora

316 appearances · Silver Age · 1964–2026 · 15 key issues
Who is Amora?

Born in Asgard, Amora trained under the sorceress Karnilla before being banished and forced to hone her formidable magical abilities alone. She parlayed her mastery of enchantment and seduction into a fearsome reputation, becoming the Enchantress — one of Thor's most persistent and dangerous foes.

Few characters from Marvel's Silver Age have proven as enduringly magnetic as Amora, who made her grand entrance in The Avengers #7 back in 1964, conjured into being by the legendary duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Over more than six decades — from the earliest days of Marvel's heroic revolution straight through to 2026 — she has carved out a remarkable 264 appearances across titles like Thor, Immortal Thor, and Avengers, racking up 15 key issues that collectors have long prized. She keeps exceptionally storied company: Thor, Thor Odinson, Iron Man, Captain America, and Steve Rogers all share her pages, placing her squarely at the beating heart of the Marvel Universe's most iconic adventures. A card-carrying Avenger with a Silver Age pedigree and a staying power that spans generations, Amora is exactly the kind of character whose back-issue trail is worth chasing.

Trivia

  • Marvel's own character history confirms that Amora was trained by Karnilla before being expelled for excessive undiscipline — a fascinating detail that casts the Enchantress not as a born magical prodigy, but as a failed apprentice who clawed her way to sorcerous power on her own terms.marvel.com
  • Jim Shooter has written more of Amora's comics than any other writer in our catalog — 30 issues.
