“The Hobgoblin of Little Minds”

Part of Marvel's 1989 "Acts of Vengeance" crossover, this issue throws Doctor Strange into a nightmare collision with a very unexpected foe — the Hobgoblin, straight from the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man. The cover by Butch Guice captures the confrontation with real menace: a snarling, red-eyed Hobgoblin dominates the image, his tattered orange robes billowing as he looms over a reeling Doctor Strange, with jack-o'-lantern pumpkin bombs scattered dramatically around them. Writers Roy Thomas and Dann Thomas, with artist Jackson Guice on interiors, make for a creative team well-suited to blend Strange's mystical world with this kind of street-level horror.
