With Betty’s help, the trio heads to a secluded island for a quiet picnic, but trouble finds them again when Jughead is sent off to gather firewood. Penciled and inked by Rex W. Lindsey, this 1999 Double Digest tale delivers classic Archie-style humor with a splash of underwater mischief, all drawn by Bob Bolling.
In "Cheep Talk!", Jughead's latest experiment in pet ownership takes a surprising turn when his parakeet starts mimicking the day's most memorable phrases—especially those from Mr. Weatherbee, who’s just denied the girls’ request for a bird feeder. As the bird perches on the principal’s windowsill and repeats everything it’s heard, Weatherbee begins to question his own sanity… and maybe reconsider the feeder request.
In "Rabbit Transit," Jughead’s role in the gang’s charity play takes a comically disastrous turn when Archie claims the rabbit costume’s zipper is stuck—though it isn’t. With hours to spare before showtime, Jughead rushes off on a series of errands, leading the entire town to panic as they believe a giant rabbit is on the loose.
In "The Cream of the Crop," Jughead tries his hand at selling ice cream, only to be outshone by a dazzling female vendor who draws every customer. Determined to win back his crowd, he reinvents himself with a charm and flair that’s totally out of character—just in time to see how far a little confidence can go.
In "Shell Game!", Jughead’s unexpected side hustle selling seashell jewelry sparks a competitive fire in Reggie, who teams up with Archie to uncover the source of Jughead’s supply—before they’re left out of the seaside profits.
In "I Love a Parade, Usually!", Archie and Jughead’s attempt to salvage golf balls for resale takes a wild turn when their scooter sends the balls flying into a Mr. Lodge-sponsored parade. Chased through the streets by furious parade-goers, the duo narrowly escape using their scuba gear—only to be rescued by Betty, who suggests a quiet picnic on a secluded island. With Archie and Betty planning a peaceful evening, Jughead is sent off to gather firewood.
In "Envy," Reggie's confidence takes a nosedive when he thinks the guys left him behind because they were jealous of his looks—only to realize too late that they were just heading to the snack bar. Written by an unknown author and illustrated by an unknown artist, this short, lighthearted moment captures Reggie’s trademark ego in a classic, self-aware moment of teenage absurdity.
Jo and the Archies try to find a quiet spot to practice their music, but every place they try is shut down by frustrated adults. When they finally sneak into the Cooper house, they discover a clever way to play without disturbing Mrs. Cooper—though how they pull it off is a secret they’ll keep until the last note.
