“Store Bought Magic”

This breezy 1968 beach-day cover from Archie Series says it all: Veronica, crowned and holding a trophy, announces to a kneeling Archie that he's been voted "most popular boy on the beach" — and Archie's delirious response, "I must be dreaming! Somebody PINCH ME!", gets answered rather literally by a lobster inching his way. Reggie and Betty look on from the background as the gag unfolds perfectly in the sun and sand. Cover pencils by Bill Vigoda and inks by Jon D'Agostino give the scene that warm, effortlessly fun Archie charm that made these summer issues so irresistible.
