“Car-Runch”

Pep #386 brings the usual Riverdale charm to a baseball diamond, where Veronica in full catcher's gear calls out to Archie that she's "got a no-hitter going" — while a spectator deadpans that she simply hasn't hit a batter in six innings. Dan DeCarlo's cover pencils and inks frame the gag beautifully, with Betty in her pitching uniform, Archie grinning from the dugout fence, and a bonus peek at the superhero duo Mighty Man and Marvellous Maureen in the upper corner. Billed as a "Blockbuster Issue," this 1982 entry in the long-running Archie anthology delivers the kind of cheerful, pun-driven humor that made Pep a staple of the spinner rack.
