Victor Pazmiño
Victor Estenio Pazmiño was born on June 24, 1899, and died on June 6, 1970. A cartoonist and one of the earliest American comic book artists, he is best known for his extensive cover work on two foundational comic book series. He drew the majority of covers for Dell Publishing’s *The Funnies*, one of the first comic books, and later did the same for early issues of Eastern Color Printing’s pioneering *Famous Funnies*. His career in comics began in the late 1920s, and he worked as an artist, inker, letterer, and writer across 34 issues, with his most credited titles including *The Funnies*, *Comic Comics*, *Ha Ha Comics*, *Gwandanaland Comics*, *Famous Funnies*, and *Hullabaloo*. Pazmiño’s style helped define the look of early comic books, and he collaborated with other pioneers of the medium. His contributions to the form’s early development are recognized by collectors and historians, though he did not receive major industry awards during his lifetime. His legacy endures as a key figure in the transition from newspaper comic strips to the dedicated comic book format.
