Sterling Gates (born March 1, 1981) is an American comic book and television writer best known for his defining run on *Supergirl*. Born in the United States, Gates entered the industry in the late 2000s, quickly establishing himself as a key architect of the Superman family of titles. His most celebrated work came on *Supergirl*, where he revitalized Kara Zor-El's solo series, and he later co-wrote the epic crossover events *Superman: Last Stand of New Krypton* and *Superman: War of the Supermen* alongside James Robinson. Gates also contributed to *Justice League of America's Vibe*, *Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S.*, and the digital-first *Adventures of Supergirl*, the latter tying into the CBS television series. His style balances superhero action with strong character development, often focusing on legacy and family dynamics. Among his notable co-creations is the character of Lana Lang's husband, John Corben, and the villainous Black Lanterns. After his comic book peak, Gates transitioned to television writing. While he has not received major lifetime awards, his work on *Supergirl* remains a touchstone for fans of the character, and his influence is felt in the modern portrayal of the Maid of Might.
