Supergirl #59
The cover of this February 2011 issue sets an unsettling, carnival-nightmare mood: Supergirl and a wide-eyed civilian woman walk forward looking shaken, surrounded by a crowd of grotesque, grinning dolls and puppet-like figures — while a doll wearing a Supergirl costume lies facedown in the foreground. With pencils by Amy Reeder and inks by Richard Friend, it's a genuinely creepy visual introduction to the Dollmaker. Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle were clearly having fun leaning into the eerie side of superhero storytelling in "Day of the Dollmaker, Part Two: End of the Line.
