In "Prologue," the heroes battle the Kryptonian army across multiple fronts, with Superboy turning the tide using a Phantom Zone projector. As Supergirl, Steel, and the Guardian overcome General Lane’s forces, a moment of vengeance nearly overtakes Supergirl—only for Lane to end his own life. Superman attempts to imprison Zod and himself within the Zone, but Nightwing and the Nightwing entity intervene, sending Superman back. In a pivotal shift, Nightwing de-ages and merges with Mon-El.
