Paul Pope

Paul Pope was born on September 25, 1970, and is an American alternative cartoonist whose work bridges the precision of European comics with the dynamic page design of manga. He is best known for two distinct protagonist types: the silent, lanky outsider male—featured in works like *The One Trick Rip-Off*, *Escapo*, and *Heavy Liquid*—and the resourceful, aggressive young teenage girls of his series *THB*. Pope has self-published much of his output, including *THB*, through his own Horse Press, while also working with major publishers such as DC Comics/Vertigo and First Second Books. His career spans from 1993 to 2024, with credits as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer on 89 issues. His most credited titles include *100%*, *Heavy Liquid*, *THB*, *Electric Ant*, and *Batman*. Pope’s signature style combines the romance and precision of European comics with the energy of manga, and his notable co-creations include the series *THB* and *Heavy Liquid*.
