Paul Pope's creator-driven Vertigo series continues with issue two of this five-part graphic movie, and the cover alone signals something genuinely singular. An abstract, orange figure dominates the muted purple-grey composition — bulbous and bird-like, trailing spindly limbs, with a single dangling eye motif at its center, surrounded by swirling dark shapes and scattered circular forms. Pope's bold, inky linework and Lee Loughridge's moody color palette give the whole image an unsettling dreamlike energy that sets 100% apart from anything else on shelves in 2002.
