About this Collection

This 2014 Image Comics collection brings together the first volume of the CBLDF Presents series, a benefit anthology supporting the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Featuring an all-star lineup of creators and characters from various publishers, the book includes stories with Kick-Ass, Grendel, Martha Washington, Painkiller Jane, Madman, and many more, alongside original contributions from Sergio Aragonés and other notable talents. The volume showcases the comics community's solidarity with free speech and First Amendment issues through a mix of humor, action, and heartfelt advocacy.

In "The Deadly Book," a chilling tale from The CBLDF Presents: Liberty #nn, Scott finds himself in a tense, unsettling situation when he’s asked to help the Governor move a series of empty fish tanks to his office. As the Governor reveals his unsettling plan to fill them with horrors—starting with Scott’s own head—his calm demeanor hides a growing dread. Written by Robert Kirkman and illustrated with stark precision by Charlie Adlard, with colors by Cliff Rathburn and letters by Rus Wooton, the issue’s cover by Paul Pope captures the story’s eerie, foreboding tone.
