Mike Docherty
1955–2016
Mike Docherty was a Scottish comic artist and animator, born September 11, 1955, and died January 19, 2016. He is best known for his extensive work on Marvel Comics' *Conan* titles during the 1980s and 1990s. Discovered by writer Alan Grant, who scouted Scottish talent for Marvel, Docherty became one of the most prolific artists in the *Conan* universe, penciling *Conan the Barbarian*, *Conan the King*, and *Savage Sword of Conan*, as well as the graphic novels *The Horn of Azoth* and *The Ravagers Out of Time*. His style, detailed and dynamic, suited the sword-and-sorcery genre well. After penciling three issues of *Conan the Savage* in 1996, he left comics for animation, working as a storyboard artist on series such as *The Incredible Hulk*, *Godzilla: The Series*, and *Captain Simian & The Space Monkeys*. Based in California, he also contributed concept designs for live-action and animated projects. His career spanned over 100 issues, primarily for Marvel, and he remained active in the industry until his death.
