Jim Steranko

Jim Steranko was born on November 5, 1938. He is best known for his groundbreaking 1960s work on the superspy feature *Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.*, first in Marvel’s *Strange Tales* and then in the character’s own series. Steranko’s bold, cinematic style blended surrealism, pop art, and graphic design, making him one of the most influential artists of the Silver Age. His comics career, spanning from 1966 to 2023, saw him credited as writer, artist, colorist, inker, and letterer on 143 issues, with notable runs on *Captain America*, *Captain Britain*, and *Hercules*. Beyond comics, he became a respected historian, authoring a pioneering two-volume history of early comic books, and worked as a conceptual artist for films such as *Raiders of the Lost Ark* and *Bram Stoker’s Dracula*. Steranko was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2006. His work has been published worldwide, and his influence on sequential art remains strong.
