Jason Shawn Alexander
b. 1975
Jason Shawn Alexander (born 1975) is an American painter, illustrator, and draftsman best known for his moody, expressionistic work on horror and supernatural comics. His path into the industry began with illustrations for Dark Horse Comics, DC Comics, Warner Brothers, and Hasbro, among others. He created and wrote his own series, *Empty Zone*, which ran for years under Sirius Entertainment, and also contributed to that publisher’s *Poison Elves: Lusiphur* and *Linlith*. In the 2010s, Alexander became a defining visual force on *Killadelphia* and a key artist on *Spawn*, bringing a gritty, painterly style to both titles. He also worked on *Frostbite*, *Damn Nation*, and arcs of *Batman* and *Detective Comics*. His art, often built from heavy blacks and textured ink washes, has been exhibited at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles and at 101/exhibit in Miami and New York. Over a career spanning from 2004 to 2025, he has been credited on more than 50 issues as artist, colorist, inker, or writer. Alexander continues to work across comics and fine art, his visceral storytelling earning him a dedicated following among readers of dark fantasy and crime noir.
