Jamie McKelvie
1980–
Jamie McKelvie is a British cartoonist and illustrator best known for his clean, modern character designs and his collaborative work on creator-owned and mainstream superhero comics. Born in 1980, he broke into the industry in the early 2000s with his first major series, *Phonogram*, a music-and-magic comic he co-created with writer Kieron Gillen. The duo later reunited for the acclaimed *Young Avengers* (2013), where McKelvie’s sleek, fashion-forward art helped redefine the team’s visual identity. His most celebrated work remains *The Wicked + The Divine*, a long-running Image Comics series that explored pop stardom and mythology, with McKelvie providing both art and character designs. He also created the graphic novel *Suburban Glamour* and contributed to *Phonogram: The Singles Club* and *Phonogram: The Immaterial Girl*. McKelvie’s style—marked by crisp linework, bold colors, and a keen sense of costume and composition—has made him a sought-after collaborator. He has received multiple Eisner Award nominations for his work on *The Wicked + The Divine* and *Young Avengers*, and his influence on contemporary comic art is widely recognized. Active from 2001 through 2024, McKelvie continues to shape the visual language of modern comics.
