Who is Moon Knight?

Marc Spector, a mercenary left for dead in the Egyptian desert, was resurrected beneath a statue of the moon god Khonshu and granted a second life as the deity's avatar on Earth — becoming the costumed vigilante Moon Knight.

Few characters have a debut quite like Moon Knight's — bursting onto the scene in Werewolf by Night #32 in 1975, conjured by Doug Moench and Don Perlin straight out of the Bronze Age's love of darker, more complex heroes. Over more than five decades at Marvel, he's grown from a striking supporting player into a figure compelling enough to anchor multiple solo series — Moon Knight, Vengeance of the Moon Knight, and beyond — racking up 431 catalog appearances and a remarkable 12 key issues that collectors genuinely chase. He keeps extraordinary company, sharing pages with Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, and Wolverine, which speaks volumes about the weight he carries in the Marvel universe. If you're looking for a character with deep Bronze Age roots, serious longevity, and a devoted following that only keeps growing, Moon Knight is absolutely worth your time.

Trivia

  • Moon Knight's first solo assignment wasn't a dedicated title but a tryout arc in Marvel Spotlight, the classic Marvel proving ground where unproven concepts had to earn their ongoing series.nerdist.com
  • Moon Knight has been recast both in-universe and on the page more radically than almost any Marvel lead, with later versions repositioning him from hired antagonist to superhero and overhauling his supporting identities and status along the way.nerdist.com
  • Brian Michael Bendis has written more of Moon Knight's comics than any other writer in our catalog — 25 issues.
