About the series
Set in 1930s New York, Sandman Mystery Theatre (1993–1999, DC) reimagines the Golden Age hero as a noir detective, with wealthy inventor Wesley Dodds donning a gas mask to stalk the city's shadows. Written primarily by Matt Wagner, Steven T. Seagle, and Shelly Roeberg, with moody, expressionistic art from Guy Davis, Vince Locke, and Warren Pleece, the 70-issue series grounds its mystery-of-the-month plots in gritty, psychological horror.
