Sandman Mystery Theatre #70

The penultimate chapter of Vertigo's noir masterwork arrives with issue #70, closing out "The Hero" with cover art by Gavin Wilson and Richard Bruning that captures the series' signature atmosphere — a sharp-eyed man in a fedora and round glasses grips a pistol in the foreground, while a thoughtful young woman looms ghost-like in the shadows behind him. The photo-realistic, black-and-white aesthetic gives the cover the brooding tension of a 1930s crime film still. Steven T. Seagle and Guy Davis bring their acclaimed run to this final act, and if the cover is any indication, the mood is as atmospheric and gripping as ever.
