Issue #48 brings the four-part "Blackhawk" arc to its dramatic conclusion, with the cover — rendered in moody photorealistic style by Gavin Wilson and Richard Bruning — presenting Wesley Dodds himself: a quietly intense man in suit, tie, and wide-brimmed hat, his gas-mask goggles hanging at the ready as warplanes streak through the haze behind him. The taglines say it all: "Behind an Unassuming Smile… Beneath a Cool Facade… Manhattan's Masked Mystery Man Stalks a Rogue Pilot with a Past!" It's a wonderfully atmospheric sendoff to this adventure serial, with the Vertigo mature-readers sensibility very much intact.
