Sandman Mystery Theatre #17
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freePart one of "The Scorpion" arrives in this August 1994 installment of DC Vertigo's atmospheric noir series, and the cover sets a deeply unsettling mood right from the start. A looming scorpion dominates the upper half, while a shadowy figure in a wide-brimmed fedora lurks below, with an Art Deco theatrical poster depicting elegantly dressed figures partially visible between them — the whole composition framed by the haunting quote: "…a sudden blur of coiled leather and the flesh opened up like a rose." Cover artists Gavin Wilson and Richard Bruning blend photography and illustration into something that feels genuinely cinematic, perfectly capturing the pulpy, shadow-drenched world Matt Wagner and Steven T. Seagle have built around the Golden Age Sandman.
