About the series
From 1948 to 1962, Dell Comics brought Edgar Rice Burroughs' iconic jungle lord to the stands in a celebrated 131-issue series. Guided by the steady scripts of Gaylord Du Bois and Elizabeth Beecher, the title was visually defined by the lush, adventurous artwork of Jesse Marsh, later joined by Russ Manning and Morris Gollub. This long-running comic expanded Tarzan's world beyond the novels, introducing original characters like the boy Jack Clayton and the ape-man Dan-El, while keeping the core family—John Clayton, Boy, and the loyal Natongo—at the heart of the jungle.
