“Tarzan and the Swords of Alur”

High in the jungle canopy, Tarzan locks eyes with a snarling leopard poised to strike — Moe Gollub's cover painting crackles with raw tension as the two figures face off on a massive tree limb, the big cat's spotted coat and bared fangs rendered in vivid detail. This 1954 Dell issue packs a full 52 pages, with Gaylord Du Bois and Jesse Marsh bringing Edgar Rice Burroughs' Ape-Man to life inside in "Tarzan and the Swords of Alur." A great pick for anyone who loves adventure storytelling at its most immediate and visceral.
