It collects Champions #1-17, as well as the team's appearances in Iron Man Annual #4, Avengers #163, and Spectacular Spider-Man #17-18, chronicling their short-lived but memorable adventures against villains like the Swarm and the original Rampage.
In "The World Still Needs... the Champions!", the team faces a crisis when Black Goliath saves their sky-car from a crash, revealing he designed it—only to uncover a dangerous flaw in its construction. With new ally Darkstar by their side, the Champions race to Arizona to aid Hawkeye and the Two-Gun Kid against the Warlord Kaa and his Shadow-Aliens. Back in Los Angeles, a mysterious girl arrives at their base with a stolen box once belonging to the Stranger, sparking tension as the Stilt-Man breaks in, hunting for it. Written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated by John Byrne, with inks by Bob Layton, colors by Don Warfield, and letters by Bruce Patterson and Gaspar Saladino, this collection features a cover by Gil Kane and Dan Adkins.
In "Divide and Conquer!", the Champions are thrown into chaos when Rampage arrives with news about Black Widow—only for his exo-skeleton to explode. With the team split across urgent tasks—Ghost Rider rushing Rampage to the hospital, Iceman and Ivan hunting for Natasha, and Hercules and the Angel prepping a global press launch—the Champions’ unity is tested when the Griffin, Titanium Man, and Crimson Dynamo crash the event.
In "The Battle of Los Angeles!", the tide turns against the heroes as they’re overwhelmed by a relentless villainous assault. With the team scattered and defeated, Black Widow makes a desperate escape just as Ivan and Iceman close in on her hidden location.
In "The Shadow from the Stars," Black Goliath steps in to save the Champions' sky-car, revealing he designed it—only to uncover a dangerous flaw in its construction. With the team, including new ally Darkstar, racing to Arizona, they join Hawkeye and the Two-Gun Kid in fending off the Warlord Kaa and his alien shadows. Back in Los Angeles, a mysterious girl arrives at the base with a stolen box once belonging to the Stranger, triggering a break-in by the Stilt-Man, who’s after the same mysterious cargo.
In Los Angeles, the Champions and Black Goliath take down Stilt-Man—only for the Stranger to appear, revealing the fleeing criminal was carrying the Null-Life Bomb. As the device begins to swell, the Stranger vanishes inside it, teleporting the team to a hostile realm where they're immediately set upon by Kamo Tharnn and his Beast-Men.
In "The Doom That Went On Forever!", the Champions race against an endless threat as the Stranger tries to contain the catastrophic spread of the Null-Life Bomb. With the help of the Stranger and a desperate trip back to Earth, Darkstar seeks the Runestaff—once wielded by Hercules to aid Thor—hoping it holds the key to stopping the explosion before it consumes everything.
In "The Creature Called... Swarm!", the Champions' headquarters turns against Hercules and Iceman, forcing them into a desperate fight for survival. Meanwhile, Ghost Rider, Black Widow, and Darkstar face a terrifying new threat as Swarm unleashes its chaotic assault across the compound.
In "A World For the Winning!", Dr. Doom’s neuro-canisters plunge Earth into helpless obedience—until boredom prompts him to free Magneto. With the world silenced, Magneto tries to break the spell on the Avengers, managing only to free the Beast, whose awakening sets a new course in a reality where resistance is both forbidden and fragile.
In "Whatever Happened to the Iceman?", Peter finds himself in California chasing a story about the crumbling remnants of the Champions, only to discover that Angel is the last to remain in the unstable Champion's Tower. With Spidey by his side, Angel faces a former foe who's manipulating Iceman, turning the icy hero into a weapon.
When Iceman crashes at Angel’s place for a night of fun with his new girl, their plans go sideways with the sudden arrival of a mysterious Sentinel. As the Master Mold hunts them across the skies, Angel calls in the Hulk to face the threat—only to find that even the most powerful mutant hunter can’t contain the rage of the jade giant. The battle rages at Gamma Base, culminating in a fiery escape that leaves the three heroes bruised but alive.
