The Champions #11
In "The Shadow from the Stars," the Champions face a mysterious threat when Black Goliath intervenes to save their sky-car—only to reveal he built it himself, and its flawed metal is now a liability. With new ally Darkstar at their side, the team races to Arizona to aid Hawkeye and the Two-Gun Kid against the Warlord Kaa and his Shadow-Aliens. Back in Los Angeles, a stranger arrives at their base with a stolen box once belonging to the Stranger, prompting a break-in by the Stilt-Man, who’s clearly after what’s inside. Written by Bill Mantlo, illustrated by John Byrne with inks by Bob Layton, colors by D. Warfield, and letters by Patterson and Gaspar Saladino, the cover by Gil Kane and Bob Layton captures the tension of a 30-cent comic from 1977.
